Bura Bura Quest

Custom Route 001

A slow summer bura-bura route

Nia the black cat gathered these spots on her wanders, and I strung the best ones together. On a hot day in Roppongi, following the shade is just about right. They’re numbered in walking order, so follow them and you probably won’t get lost. But if you get tired, duck into some shade, a cool shop, or a café and rest. And if the heat makes you sleepy — heading back to the hotel for a nap is totally fine, too.

Akasaka Hikawa Shrine

Early morning · around 7:00

Shrine trees, Midtown and breakfast

Use the cooler first hours for a quiet shrine walk, then drift through Tokyo Midtown before breakfast. The entire opening stretch is roughly 30–35 minutes on foot, before browsing time.

Walk: Akasaka Hikawa Shrine → Tokyo Midtown → Le Pain Quotidien.

The National Art Center, Tokyo

Morning · from 10:00

Architecture before the exhibition

Give the National Art Center enough time for both its changing exhibitions and Kisho Kurokawa’s sweeping glass facade. Afterward, move to Roppongi Hills rather than adding another exposed summer walk.

Suggested: about 5 minutes by taxi from the National Art Center to Roppongi Hills.

Afternoon

Garden lunch, contemporary art and a reset

Keep the hottest part of the day compact. Lunch overlooks Mohri Garden, the museum supplies the main cultural anchor, and the final stop is intentionally restorative rather than another attraction.

A skyline drink, kaiseki and one last record

The evening is deliberately modular: begin high above the city, settle into dinner, then choose one music room according to energy rather than trying to collect them all.

Before you go

Opening days, hours, exhibition contents, reservation requirements and bar entry conditions can change, so it’s worth checking ahead — follow each link to confirm. The embedded map is only a rough overview, so pick the streets you like and walk them slowly, without rushing; you’ll start to notice all sorts of things. Note that this itinerary mixes walking with a short taxi ride — when it’s hot, don’t push yourself; take a taxi or a ride-hailing app.
